Drying clothes indoors adds moisture to the air. In cooler UK homes, that can contribute to condensation, slow drying and a damp-feeling room — especially when windows stay closed for long periods.
A dehumidifier can help in the right setup, but it is not automatically the first thing to buy.
Start by looking at the room
Ask three questions:
- Is the room already showing condensation or a persistent damp smell?
- Can you ventilate safely without making the room uncomfortably cold?
- Are you regularly drying large loads indoors rather than occasionally hanging a few items?
If indoor drying is a recurring source of moisture, a dehumidifier becomes more relevant.

In practice, that can improve drying conditions while also reducing the amount of moisture left in the room.

For laundry drying, a smaller enclosed room usually works better than trying to dry clothes across a whole open-plan home.
- keep the dehumidifier clear of walls and fabric;
- leave space between garments;
- use a clothes airer rather than piling wet items together;

What capacity do you need?
